The Weekend in Review

July 20, 2003 :: :: Original Blog

Friday had its moments. After a 12-hour workday that had me just about ready to become a headline, I found respite in those havens for the distressed, the Wisconsin bars, where I purchased beef jerky from a Golden Retriever and was straddled by someone's mom. I'm sure Slim Goodbuzz will tell you all about it.

Saturday was fabulous. Ca-chee and I went on a walk, then made a pizza from stuff purchased at the Italian Village and watched The Night of the Hunter on video. I don't want to go overboard and say that it's a better movie than Spider Baby, but it has certainly bullied its way into my top-five all-time favorites. It's beautiful and creepy and funny, often all at the same time. Chiiiilll-dren...

Sunday was not a day of rest. It was a day of work. But it was, admittedly, fun and exciting work--preparing for the move, and getting materials ready for "The Art of the Cartoon" show at the Duluth Art Institute. I am told that the show will feature yours truly along with Sarah Heimer, Jim Richardson, and Margaret Frastley. Chris Monroe's show, "Ultraviolet" will have the George Morrison Gallery, whereas the rest of us will display in the Hallway Gallery. You'd think they'd be able to come up with a more flattering name than the "Hallway Gallery." Anyhow, the reception is on August 1, from 5-7. Hope you all can make it. I certainly won't be there, as I'm one of those rare artists who actually works for a living.
