Expanding Horizons

Thanksgiving 2

What an interesting couple of days off I had.

Last night, I attended two free, fun events. The first was the Physics Circus at the DECC. I was surprised that the place was packed -- maybe kids got extra credit for going or something. But it was a blast to see a bunch of geeks running around on stage performing physics stunts. One of the crowd-pleasers involved boiling water in an oil drum, then putting the cap on and rapidly cooling the drum down so that it imploded. Another involved shooting a baseball out of a cannon at a guy who was simultaneously falling from a 50-foot scaffold. Phun!

Later I went to see the charming Adrian Orange, a/k/a Thanksgiving, perform in a charming stranger's charming living room. Actually, it seemed more like a bedroom, because it was very small and there were bunk beds in the corner ("stadium seating," it was explained). Adrian is sort of like Calvin Johnson in that he has a deep voice and offbeat lyrics, and in that he likes to make a lot of conversation with the audience. Often, he'd turn out all the lights in the room and just sing in the dark. It beat the hell out of going to some lame bar for the millionth time. People should do this kind of thing more often.

Living room

And speaking of charming living rooms, I have one once again. Mr. Lundgren is officially living in sin with a real-live girl, so I relieved him of his sofa and a small desk. Who knows how many farts he's lodged into the thing, but I no longer have to sit on the floor, and I saved myself a thousand bucks. Plus, now I've rearranged my home for better efficiency. I moved the record cabinet out into the living room, and the new desk into the office, so now I have a room for writing/cartooning, while the living room is more suitable for entertaining/media enjoyment.

Of course whenever I entertain, we always end up huddled around the computer anyway, because I associate with nerds. Charming nerds, but nerds nonetheless.

Gotta get me a laptop.

Comments

damn it, i missed thanksgiving.
i'm glad you enjoyed him.

Now I'm going to have to crash at your pad so I can pass out on Lundgren's sofa, so I can wake up in the morning rubbing my neck saying, "I'm never going to pass out with my ass out on that thing again!"
