I have connections. (Git it?)

Ok, you may begin your geek envy.
Yes, I am the proud owner of this shiny, slightly used "street set" as the phone phreaks call it. It seems that these things are going out of style due to the ubiquitous cell phone, and that they're being retired by the phone company.
You can get your own pay phone on eBay for about $100, but I got mine through secret connections with the phone company. I could sell it, but I won't. This baby is going to grace my home and remain in use.
It has been modified for general use. It doesn't require quarters to operate (since it's hooked up to my home phone line) and if you put quarters in, they just fall straight into the change box. I have a key for the change box, so I might also use the phone as a bank, in addition to talking on it.
On a final note, pay phones are really fricken heavy -- and this is coming from someone who lifts heavy stuff for a living. I'm not even going to bother mounting it to the wall, since it will sit on a shelf just fine without budging.
*Look* at that thing. It's like the 2001 monolith. Geek bliss.

Oh! I just remembered that episode of the Brady Bunch where Mike gets fed up with the high phone bills, and installs a pay phone in the house. Hot! Someone needs to high-five me immediately!
And oh! I totally could have made some Reflect-o-porn with that shot. Hm. Maybe next time.
Or not.

A few years back (more like ten) when I lived in Scotland they were retiring the red phone boxes. I think they were to be replaced with the more america-style phone booths. One of my eight flatmates, Dermet Campbell-Jack, founded a campaign to keep the red phone box on our block from being replaced. He had us all spend turns at the box geting people who wanted to use the phone sign a petition to keep it. I wonder if it's still there....

Oooh. I am very jealous of that shiney pay phone. I never knew I needed one of those until I saw yours.
