Let's Take This Out of the Comments

...And talk about one of the greatest TV shows of all time, Freaks and Effing Geeks.

First of all, any TV show that has a theme song by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, frequent Van Halen appearances in the soundtrack not to mention Steve Martin's "King Tut" is just beautiful. There is no other word for it.

Second, the show is about a mathlete who spontaneously decided to become a burnout. If that isn't the greatest idea that for a TV show that ever came to fruition, I don't know what is.

So let's talk favorite episodes and favorite moments. If you're not familiar with the show, stop reading now to avoid spoilers and e-mail me to arrange a screening. I own the entire series on DVD and am glad to watch every episode 1,000 times. I'm a geek, after all.

My favorite episode is where Bill's mom starts dating his gym teacher, namely the part where he comes home, makes himself a grilled cheese sandwich, and watches Gary Shandling do standup on TV while laughing uncontrollably. That is every day of my early adolescent life. I ate comedy voraciously, almost as voraciously as pasteurized processed cheese food.

Anyhow, discuss. As for me, I'm going to sleep. It is past dawn, after all.

"No, we want to get a keg of non-alcoholic beer."
"Righteous."

this was mentioned in the comments of the other post, but my very favorite moment is when millie plays "jesus is just alright with me" on the piano at the non-alcoholic kegger... and, from the same epsidoe, when bill gets wasted watching "dallas" by himself. i love when bill dresses as the bionic woman. and when daniel plays dungeons and dragons with the boys. and when nick gets into disco. and when daniel dresses up to fit in with the punk crowd at that club. i also feel very proud when bill gets seven minutes in heaven with vicki appleby. and i pretty much love everything ken ever did.
i could talk about this show forever.

Mr. Weir: Elvis didn't expectorate on his fans.
Sam: No. But he died on the toilet.
Mr. Weir: Well, that's paradise compared to where the Sex Pistols are gonna end up.

Ahhh, Bill....Bill, Bill, Bill. I'm very Billcentric. There is a killer deleted scene in the dvd extras in which Bill and the guidance counsellor discuss where Bill's grandma went when she died. ohhh, I also love the scene in which everyone is reading the script from the prank phone call made to Biff. I pretty much love every minute of Back to the Future Biff. I agree the best episode is the one where Bill's mom starts dating Biff. I also love when Bill dances. Holy Mackeral, I love Freaks and Geeks.

I don't remember specific names, but my favorite scene was when the guy who fell in love with Lindsey brought her down in the rec room and put on "Lady" by Styx and sang it to her to show how he felt. THAT was me, Charlie. Same emotions, same kinda sad attempts to tell a girl how I felt...just the best TV ever. And the best use of period soundtrack on tv ever.

Speaking of Styx, there's also the scene where Sam gets up the nerve to ask Cindy Summers for a dance at Homecoming. He foolishly asks her during "Come Sail Away," thinking he's going to get a slow dance, but of course by the time they get out there, it's the part where Styx "climbs aboard a starship" and Sam is forced to boogie.

I loved--loved!--when Joel Hodgson from MST3K guest starred as the sales clerk in the disco clothing store...well, "starred" might be too strong a word, since it was a pretty minor character. But still, it rocked. And then Sam goes to school in that disco jumpsuit...oh god, just beautiful.

Wow. I never even realized that was Joel-effing-Hodgson. He had a wig on, didn't he? I need to re-watch this immediately. He gave Sam the HARD SELL. Wasn't he the same guy that the freaks went to to find out about fake IDs? Or maybe not.

I don't remember if he was the fake ID guy or not...but I do remember that he was the DJ at the disco in the last episode.

And Trace Beaulieu (Dr. Forrester) was in five or six episodes, too.
