I hate Rush.

In my early teenage years, after all of my siblings had left the house, I remember methodically going through all of their records looking for something to like. I was apparently bored with my tapes and thought I needed some schooling in music. There wasn't much; or rather there was quite a bit, but not much was good. The first three albums from The Cars stood out, as well as Blondie's Autoamerican, but I'd been listening to those albums fairly consistently ever since they entered our house. My eldest sister had some choice albums, but she took them with her when she moved out. I was left with the dregs.
My parents played the hell out of an album of duets by Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline, which I certainly never complained about, but couldn't really bring myself to listen to by my own volition. Mainly, there were a lot of albums by Dolly Parton, whom I wouldn't learn to appreciate until my late 20s, and a lot of give-away crap like brass bands doing the Beatles, and shit like that.
I longed for my sister's Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath albums, which as I said, she took with her, and which I believe she threw out when she became a Jehovah's Witness. This is almost, but not quite as unforgivable as when she threw out an original copy of Sing Along with Jeno. But I've written about that before and I can't think about it too long without risking an aneurism.
Anyway, I remember finding the album 2112 by Rush and thinking that it should be something that I should like. After all, it was almost like devil music. Plus, the lead singer, Geddy Lee, did vocals on "Take Off" by the MacKenzie Brothers. How bad could it be?
Bad. Really, really fucken bad.
Because I was a geek, a poor geek who couldn't afford to buy good music at the time, I listened to that album over and over trying to get it and trying to like it. I got it, but man, it sucked. A concept album about rock 'n' roll saving the world. How original. If you've read this site, you know how I feel about The Who and Pink Floyd. Fuck, Kilroy Was Here by Styx beats the hell out of 2112.
Plus, why 2112? We all know the world's going to end in 2012.
The point is, Rush sucks.

there is no way in hell that styx is a better band than rush...rush is music for more intelligent people who can actually respect a song for its muscianship, and you will never hear a rush song with the words "Domo Arigato" in it.

You are obviously not a musican. It is so easy to puit down musicans when you know nothing. Listen to ALL ATHE WORLDS A STAGE. To the complexity of Niel's rolls. I became a drummer because of this album. Any musican will tell you the greatness of these musicians. Finally, in a time when Canadian musicans broke no where in the world market, RUSH plowed threw world wide. When you get some talent we will talk further.

I agree, rush fucking blows, I used to work at walgreens and they would play rush constantly. It was all I could do not to find the satelite radio reciever and bash the hell out of it with a bat. And as for the guy who posted you have to be a musician to appreciate Rush, I could really care less if they were great musicians, musics not about just being proficient on your instrument. Look at nirvana, horrible guitarists, yet the music kicks the hell out of Rush.,

I don't know what it is about RUSH that is so damned appealing to people!! I am a musician and I can't stand the crap I hear when RUSH is playing on my satelite music channel!! Maybe I could appreciate it more if Geddy Lee's voice didn't turn my stomach like the thought of a catshit sandwich. I'll agree that Neil is a kick ass drummer, but that Geeky ass Geddy fuckin Lee just makes me wanna ram my jimmy in an electric outlet and pour gasoline on my ass!!!! I can't think of a singer that gets under my skin worse than him. I RUSH to turn the dial whenever they come on!!

RUSH sucks. No ifs, ands, or buts... I don't care if they are technically proficient at using their instruments - when they blend them together and attempt to write songs... well, they took an INCREDIBLY short bus to friggin' band camp. The WORST part is the DJs for the radio in Saskatchewan love the "band" and play it all the fricken time! I hate them with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns.

OMG! I hate RUSH. I hate them so much its unbelievable. My husband LOVES them, and I think I'm going to divorce him over this. They are creepy and weird. No way is their music great musicianship....they're phonies, homos and freaks. Just plain geeky wannabees. God, would someone please start an I hate Rush website so we can bitch and set the world straight????????? ARGGGH!!!!!!!!!!

I see you are ignoring all of the positive Rush comments. Kilroy Was Here? Nuff said about your musical taste. Get a clue dude. Rush has influenced an entire generation of musicians. Styx now tours with one original member out of five and plays county fairs. The posted comment by Your Girl makes a good argument for pro-abortion.

Rush is an amazing band. Neil Peart, once he put down the D&D books, became an amazing lyricist, writer and poet. (OK: I admit it - I have a crush on him.)

I agree with Dave, I wouldn't have to deal with half of the shit rush dishes out it if weren't for those fucking content laws. All of my friends love rush and I just dont fucking get it. Rush is terrible. They shun me for it but I stand by my opinion and I remind them every time I see them how much rush blows. They all have those shitty rush shirts too. I'm having one made up right now that says "RUSH SUCKS" in big red letters. Just trying to make the world a better place. :D

The amusing thing is most you probably have Bon Jovi in you collections.
Rush are hugely creative, highly proficient musicians who have over the years constantly updated their sound. Neil Peart writes excellent and widely varied lyrics, don't just go on about 2112, one song from 31 years ago.
I predict the response to my post will go something like "Rush really suck you dumb homo. I f@@king hate them and their dumbass music"

I agree with the general sentiment here in that while Rush may be geniuses and/or great technical musicians, that doesn't make their music any good. In fact, maybe they have taken their creativity too far, past the point of their music being listenable. I, too, "RUSH" to turn the station whenever they come on and absolutely can't stand their vocals or the overall strange sound they produce as a band. It's like nails on a chalkboard.
To each their own I guess, but I just wish people wouldn't worship these guys as one of the great all time bands, when other great bands (like Collective Soul, Live, etc) go largely unnoticed.

Dude you hit the nail on the head. Rush by far is the WORST piece of music in history.I listen to the beatles, led zep, ccr and the new stuff. And when ever a radio station plays a rush song, any rush song i remove the radio station from my dash memory. It is the worst music in human history.

For me, it was last year when Tom Sawyer was played(again) on the radio. I absolutely love all kinds of music- but I HATE RUSH. I can't stand any of their shit!!! I let my fellow workers know that and they get a kick out of it. Rush needs to go away.
